Power Available, Power Denied: Why Many Believers Miss God’s Strength

There’s a quiet tragedy happening in the lives of many Christians today. We go to church, sing songs of faith, quote Scriptures, and even pray — yet often, we live spiritually powerless lives. We ‘believe’ in God’s power, but somehow, we don’t remember that it is 'available' to us.

Paul warned Timothy about this very thing: a generation that would have ‘a form of godliness but deny its power’   (2 Timothy 3:5). This isn’t referring to those who are unaware! It’s referring to those who are disconnected! It describes an experience with God likely contingent on a ‘knowledge’ about Him, rather than communing with His abiding Presence within. This warning still echoes today.

God Desires to Give You Power

God never designed His children to limp through life spiritually drained or constantly defeated. He desires to give each of us ‘power’ — not worldly power, but ‘spiritual power’:

Power to overcome temptation.

Power to persist when hardest hit.

Power to stand firm against worldly influences.

Power to live and share the love of Christ.

This power isn’t earned through effort; it’s received through surrender. And that surrender begins with a choice to remain in Him.

The Secret Is Abiding in Christ

Jesus made it clear: ‘Abide in Me, and I in you… for apart from Me you can do nothing.’ (John 15:4–5)

The Christian life was never meant to be powered by human strength. When we abide in Christ — when we dwell in His presence, listen to His Word, and depend on His Spirit — His power flows through us naturally.

Abiding is not a one-time event. It’s a daily posture of dependence. It’s choosing to stay connected, like a branch to a vine, so that His life becomes our source of strength. When we drift from that connection, our faith withers. But when we remain close, His wisdom, peace, and strength become ours.

Power doesn’t come from trying harder — it comes from drawing closer.

Power Offered… But Must Be Accepted

God’s power is not withheld. It’s available to every believer who abides in Him. But it must be accepted! If you feel spiritually weak or weary, don’t try to push through in your own strength. Draw closer to the Source and watch as His power begins to flow through your life in ways you never imagined.
