Week #27--The Earth Is The Lords (Caring for Nature)
Scripture: Psalm 24:1 – “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.”
One of the easiest things to forget is that this world doesn't belong to us—it belongs to God. Every mountain, river, tree, flower, sunrise, and grain of sand is part of His creation. The earth is not simply where we live; it is something God lovingly designed and continues to sustain.
Have you ever noticed how people sometimes treat things differently when they don't own them? A rental car may not be driven quite as carefully as a brand-new car someone purchased. A borrowed tool might not always be cleaned before it's returned. When something belongs to someone else, it's easy to become less careful than we should be.
Yet the earth isn't a borrowed possession from another person—it is God's treasured creation. Every time we walk through a forest, enjoy a sunset, listen to birds sing, or feel the warmth of the sun, we are surrounded by reminders of His presence, wisdom, power, and love.
Caring for God's creation is more than good stewardship—it is an act of worship. When we appreciate the beauty of the world, avoid carelessness, and treat creation with gratitude and respect, we honor the One who made it. We aren't worshiping nature; we are worshiping the Creator by faithfully caring for what belongs to Him.
Over the next several weeks, we'll discover that every part of creation has something to teach us about God. The more closely we observe His world, the more clearly we see His character. Wonder leads to gratitude, gratitude leads to worship, and worship changes the way we care for everything God has placed in our hands.
Today, pause and thank God for the incredible world He has entrusted to us. Ask Him to give you eyes that notice His fingerprints throughout creation and a heart that cares for His world as an expression of your love for Him.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for creating such a beautiful and wonderful world. Forgive me for the times I have forgotten that everything belongs to You. Fill my heart with awe as I experience Your creation, and teach me to care for the earth as an act of gratitude and worship. May every beautiful part of nature remind me of Your greatness and draw me closer to You. Amen.
