Week #25--Pray for Others, Even Those Who Have Hurt You (Caring for Others)

Scripture: James 5:16 – “Pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

Caring for others reaches its greatest expression when we pray for their well-being—not only for those we love, but also for those who have hurt us. It is easy to pray for friends and family, but Christ calls us to care even for those who have mistreated us. Choosing to pray for them is one of the clearest signs that God's love is transforming our hearts.

Prayer is one of the greatest gifts we can offer another person. It invites God's power, wisdom, healing, and grace into their lives. Our prayers may serve as bridge between their past and God’s intervention in their future. God works in powerful ways through the faithful prayers of His people.

Job gives us a remarkable example of this truth. After enduring false accusations and hurtful words from his friends, God instructed Job to pray for them. They had already offered sacrifices for their wrong, but it was Job’s prayer that persuaded God “not to deal with them according to their folly.” As Job interceded on their behalf, his own heart was healed, and God restored and abundantly blessed his life (Job 42). Sometimes our greatest breakthrough comes when we stop focusing on our own wounds and begin seeking God's best for those who wounded us.

Praying for others also helps us forgive. It replaces bitterness with compassion, resentment with mercy, and anger with hope. As we sincerely ask God to bless, guide, and restore others, our hearts become more like the heart of Christ, who prayed even for those who crucified Him.

Today, pray intentionally for someone else. Pray for their faith, their family, their future, and their relationship with God. If someone has hurt you, ask God to bless them and work in their life. You may never know how your prayers change them—but you will certainly discover how they change you.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the privilege of praying for others. Give me a heart that sincerely desires Your best for every person, even those who have hurt me. Remove bitterness from my heart and replace it with compassion, forgiveness, and love. May my prayers become a source of healing, hope, and blessing, and may they reflect the heart of Jesus. Amen.
