Week 17--Speak Words That Build Up, Not Tear Down (Caring for Others)

Scripture: Proverbs 16:24 – “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

Caring for others includes the spiritual responsibility of using our words to guide, strengthen, encourage, and heal. Our words have great power. They can either wound hearts and discourage others, or they can bring comfort, hope, and life. God calls us to speak in a way that reflects His love and truth.

Gracious words are not empty compliments nor flattering words meant only to make someone feel good for a moment. True, Christlike words are sincere, honest, and spoken with compassion. They build others up because they are rooted in truth. When we speak truth with kindness, our words become healing to the soul and strength to the heart.

Before we speak, we should ask ourselves: Are my words true? Are they helpful? Will they encourage and strengthen this person? Caring for others means choosing words that reflect God’s heart, even when it requires patience, honesty, or gentleness.

Today, look for opportunities to speak words that build up rather than tear down. Offer sincere encouragement, express appreciation, or gently speak truth that helps someone grow. In doing so, you become a source of God’s healing and grace.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to use my words to build others up. Guard me from speaking carelessly or falsely, and teach me to speak truth with grace so that my words may bring healing and encouragement. Amen.
